Lahore-Qalandars-vs-Quetta-Gladiators

You will not see one of the best match then we witnessed today. Quetta the table toppers battled against Lahore Qalandars. It was one of the best war of PSL 2016. In fact all the matches were close and involved the thrillers but this one tops the all. What makes it one of the best, the pure entertainment and the suspense finish. It was highest scoring match with over 400 runs. So how it happens take a look folks.

Quetta again won the toss and elected to field first like they always did expect in the last match in Sharjah. Today Pitch at Dubai was one of the best of the best pitch ever at PSL 2016 and as soon as the match begins there was no doubt that today Gayle Storm will come. As predicted Chris Gayle officially arrived at PSL 2016 by depositing monster sixes in crowd to Anwar Ali, Umar Gul and Zulfiqar Babar.

They started with a storm and Gayle scored a quick half century before holding out to long on by Zulfiqar Babar. Then the man in form Umar Akmal arrived to partner Azhar Ali who played some delightful strokes on his way to half century. Umar Akmal attacked the bowlers also and scored freely. By the end of their innings they scored 201 runs at the loss of 2 wickets. Lahore had to thanks their top order for this massive start and also the boundaries which were brought in by 10-15 meters to make it more intense and last but not the least the Gayle with his epic storm.

Chasing target above 200 required a brisk start and Quetta did that. They lost Ahmed Shehzad early in the chase but the PSL debut-ant and another star in making, Bismillah Khan, produced a gem along with the experienced Kevin Pieterson. They both scored at brisk rate and scored easily. They were hitting boundaries at will. KP was especially very cruel on Ehsan Adil hitting him for 5 fours in an over. The raced to 100 mark in less then 10 overs and gave the chase a perfect momentum.

But this match was full of suspense and that what happen, Dawyne Bravo the experienced player produced two beauties to dismiss KP and Bismillah Khan. The match momentum at that time turned in Lahore favor. But again Quetta captain Sarfraz Ahmad and the experienced player Kumar Sangakara held the innings together and produced the partnership which again brought the match in balance. They ran exceptionally well between the wickets and kept the run rate ticking.

But again the momentum swung when Ehsan Adil, who was taken to cleaners by KP earlier, was brought back by captain Azhar Ali. He bowled Sarfraz who attempted a lap sweep which was not required as he got the boundary earlier. Then in the same over he bowled the great Sangakara with absolute peach of the delivery. When the great left hander Sanga have no answer to that ball then we don’t have to say any thing about that. Ehsan was not finished at that time either he took another wicket of Muhammad Nawaz. Ten it was his fielding which showed the way back to Grant Elliot. He took the catch inches above the ground but was not sure. TV umpire confirmed that it was a clean take and that swung the match in Lahore favor.

But still the best was there to come. Muhamamd Nabi the unsung hero came to crease with two overs left and over 27 runs needed to win. Dwanye Bravo bowled the penultimate over but Muhammad Nabi took him for 12 runs in that over. The last over was the most crucial one. Azhar Ali tried to dry the runs in the penultimate over so he could bowl the last over by a part timer. That’s where he was mistaken. The dew played it’s part as the ball was consistently getting wet in the out field. Azhar had the choice to bowl the last over between Delport and Zohaib Khan. Azhar went for Zhoaib.

Zohaib to Nabi bowled the first ball a dot then went for four and six. He produced two gem of the balls. Then at last ball there was 3 runs required to win. But the wet ball played it’s part and the ball slipped out of his hand and went wide of Nabi who took the opportunity and deposited it to a boundary where Bravo made a valiant effort to stop it but couldn’t. The boundary made the Quetta victorious and it made the Great Sir Vivian Richards to jump like a teenager.

That was a fun to watch. Lahore made it difficult now to qualify for the play offs. If Karachi and Lahore both win tomorrow and even if Lahore has better run rate they still will not qualify because they lost head to head against Karachi. So if Lahore wants to qualify they will have to pray that Karachi loses the match against Peshawar first tomorrow and of-course they win against Islamabad.

Also Quetta is set to lose their hero Muhammad Nabi as he has to go to National duty. Their Asia cup qualifiers starts from 19th and he will fly to join his national team. So Muhammad Nabi will not be part of PSL2016 anymore. A great loss for them.
