The Final Matchup of the Pakistan Super League is just around the corner, with the underdogs Quetta Gladiators going against the surprising Islamabad United. This matchup is a great treat for the fans as there are a lot of mini-duels going on. While Quetta didn’t have to work too hard to get here, Islamabad took a more laborious route, losing four matches and then surfacing back with four consecutive wins.

Queeta vs Islamabad

If, apparently, Quetta holds leverage over Islamabad, it is only because the Gladiators have emerged victorious before when both the teams met. The teams have met twice before and both times Quetta Gladiators have successfully chased the target. This time both the teams are back to square one, as both of them have to perform their best in order to have a go at the trophy.

Star Performers

In PSL Quetta Gladiators heavily rely on Kumar Sangakkara & Kevin Pietersen. Because of the two times they have batted first, they didn’t really perform well, and the second time they put up a great performance, contributing greatly to the team’s success. For the final Shehzad and Sarfaraz need to play sensibly if Quetta wants to stand a chance against Islamabad’s lineup.

For Islamabad, Sharjeel along with Brad Haddin and Dwayne Smith are the star scorers. Although they score well in the earlier overs, they don’t show any signs of accelerating or improving on the performance much later on in the game. The team has also had to deal with a lot of veteran loss as Saeed Ajmal, Misbah and Mohammad Sami have been benched due to injuries.

Andre Russell said that he is eager to raise his bat, and improve his performance where he hasn’t been able to deliver. Although he has taken out many wickets but has faced trouble when it comes to bowling on the sluggish and slow pitches of Dubai. He hasn’t been much on the receiving end of the bowls as the batting lineup for Islamabad has easily accomplished the job for the past matches.

Mohammad Nawaz has won the Man of the Match award with his amazing all-round performance against the Islamabad United. He is also the highest wicket taker along with Andre Russell and is eager to show another great performance.

Important Team News

Islamabad has had two major injury issues. Saeed Ajmal was hit on his right foot during Islamabad’s play-off training and Rumman Raees is facing a hamstring issue. If Saeed Ajmal plays today, it is apparent that the team management prefers him over Irfan.

Luke Wright has been benched for the past two matches for Quetta due to some stiffness issues, now he is back and is much likely to make his return as the opener for Gladiators. Aizaz Cheema, after his last smashing performance, is much likely to keep Umar Gul benched.

Quote related to the final

Sarfaraz Ahmed says that the final is an amazing opportunity for Quetta, it’s populace and for the growth of cricket in the city. It’s doesn’t matter if we bowl first or bat first, the key to performance is the team chemistry, which has been exceptional throughout the series.
