It was undoubtedly one of the best day in PSL 2016. First match was between Karachi and Peshawar , we expected a nail biting match and both team delivered what the fans wanted. They got the best day so far in PSL. One of the best and high scoring match which will remain in the thoughts of every PSL fan.

Peshawar first won the toss and elected to bat first on true hard Sharjah pitch promising high scoring affair. Muhammad Hafeez provided them with much needed momentum at the top along with Tamim Iqbal. Tamim al-tough was slow to get on and struggled with timing but Hafeez was looking a master of strokes at the other end. They both played some good shots and kept the momentum intact. But this match turned in very quick moments. Karachi came back with couple of strikes after good opening partnership when Ravi Bopara struck twice.

After that Kamran Akmal and DJ Malan and scored quick runs but again momentum shifted to Karachi when again they were jolted with double strike. There was moment of controversy when on the bowling of Shoail Tanvir Afridi was caught. Local hero was caught at mid wicket on full toss which was deemed by the the third umpire as too high and was called no ball. It was a controversial decision as the ball was looked like on waist high rather then above it. It caused late damage to Karachi which eventually was enough to edge past Karachi. They scored 182 runs in their respective overs.

Muhammad Hafeez was prominent with batting scoring a brisk half century. Karachi as always lacked a specialist and all their leaked runs. They are heavily loaded with lots of all rounder. Ravi Bopara is making an impact as an all rounder. In reply Karachi start was not steady one. They lost both openers in quick succession and then Imad Wasim in one of the most awful manner. Imad Wasim hit one slog to mid wicket boundary and then didn’t run a single but walked a single. Shahid Yousuf already made a run out with his fielding had the awareness to throw the ball on the bounce to bowler who took the bails off in flash to result the run out. It was one of the bizarre dismissal ever and Imad Wasim was the only one to be blamed.

Shoaib Malik, the captain of Karachi, showed his emotions on ground while batting and lost his concentration while chasing and scooped a simpe chance to long on. From there match was in firm grip of Peshawar but this match promised much more then we expected. Ravi Bopara and James Vince played sensibly and took the bowlers to beating and gave some chance to Karachi to win. Ravi Bopara played an anchor role and took Karachi chase till the end. After the wicket of Vince, Sohail Tanvir arrived at the crease with Ravi Bopara. In next 3-4 overs they gave Peshawar bowlers a beating and took the match in final stages.

Peshawar bowlers didn’t bowl well in that period especially aged Shuan Tait. Bopara took 26 runs of 18th over bowled by Tait. That over completely shifted the momentum of the game to Karachi. The next over was a good one but Sohail Tanvir managed to hit a six to Wahab to again shift the momentum. In Final over Karachi required 13 runs and set batsman Ravi Bopara was on stirke and mostly match was in fabor of Karachi. Peshawar was in bother who will bowl the last over as they had spinner Muhammad Asghar one over in bank. But to all surprise they chose Darren Sammy to bowl the last over. It was a big call as he didn’t bowl in the tournament so far.

As expected Ravi Bopara hit first bowl six to Sammy and on next ball they took 2 runs to make the match in favor of Karachi. But again the momentum shifted, Karachi requiring 5 of 4 balls and set batsman on strike, Ravi Bopara hit a full toss to long on throat. Next three ball Sammy held his nerve and stole a victory for his team. The crowd enjoyed each ball of the match and that’s what cricket is all about. Played in high spirit.

Man of the Match: Muhammad Hafeez for his brilliant half century

Disappointment of the day: Ravi Bopara unable to finish the match and missed a juicy full toss resulted into his wicket.

Queeta vs Islamabad

Next affair was between Quetta and Islamabad. Islamabad again led by Shane Watson gave their team a valuable start, after been putting in by yet again Sarfraz Ahmed. Shane Watson was very cruel on the Muhammad Nawaz, who recently got selected in Pakistan T20 squad, and took him to beating. But again Islamabd lost their way in middle over when the newly added all-rounder, Grant Elliot, took two wickets in two balls.

Grant Elliot who came in for PSL after finishing his national duty took full advantage of the opportunity and produced beauties to dismiss Brad Haddin and Sam Billings. That broke the back bone of the Islamabad Uniteds. They ended their innings at mere 117 all out. That on Sharjah wicket was never going to be defend-able total.

Also Islamabad dropped Muhammad Sami in favor of Muhammad Irfan, who was not in best of forms. That was a surprise selection. Altough Quetta in reply was not steady as well. When Andre Russell double strike shook the Gladiators. He took Luke Wright and Kevin Pieterson to bring his team back in match. But the cool headed Sarfraz Ahmad and recently dropped from the Pakistan T20 squad Ahmad Shahzad answered his critics by playing a sensible innings along with his captain.

Sarfraz scored a match winning fifty and played spinners especially Saeed Ajmal. In the end Quetta eased passed through the Islamabad United and went top of the table.

Man of the Match: Grant Elliot for his match winning bowling spell.
