We saw the end of the inaugural PSL 2016 with a fantastic finale. In the end Islamabad United, the Federal and Capital City, who keeps us united all the way held the trophy and they deserved it. From the very first over they took the charge, momentum did shift but when it comes to their batting they were unstoppable. So folks lets see what happen in the final.

PSL 2016 final started of with the fireworks which were a treat to watch. After that the groundsmen provided us with one of the best pitch which had the perfect balance between bat and ball. In first the toss was won by the veteran Misbah ul Haq and he put Quetta Gladiators to bat first. Muhammad Irfan started the proceeding with new ball and as expected from him he provided the breakthrough in very first over when Bismillah Khan was caught by the keeper. Al-tough he was upset by the decision as he indicated it came of the bicep.

Then came the man of finals KP but unfortunately he couldn’t live up to expectations as expected by his fans all over the world and bowed out trying to slog Andre Russell first ball out of UAE. KP was surprised by the standard of  PSL 2016 fielding as he mentioned in interview that he didn’t expect the Pakistan fielders to take blinders lol. Then came in the another Legend Kumar Sanagakarra, he along with Ahmad Shahzad build a partnership which Quetta was in need. They provided the momentum which was very important for them and at one stage they were looking very threatening to take the total past 200. Ahmad Shahzad was given a life by Imran Khalid who dropped a sitter. But again You can’t take anything away from the Islamabad United Bowlers. They came back and came back strong largely due to Andre Russell. He first removed Sanga and then bowled some lethal overs which crushed the momentum of Quetta.

Sarfraz again lost his mind and tried to slog Muhammad Irfan and got hold out. Badree got better of Muhammad Nawaz after getting hit for six. Ahmad Shahzad played best innings of his PSL 2016 scoring 64 runs. He played some amazing shots even the great KP was impressed. He strongly informed the selectors that they have missed the trick by not selecting Ahmad Shahzad. Eventually he got out while accelerating the momentum. Muhammad Sami who had purple patch in the PSL took him. In the end the penultimate over which according to me was the match turning over cost Quetta. Muhamamd Sami again was the bowler and he bowled 5 dots out of 6 balls. You got to question the awful thinking of Anwar Ali, he was trying to hit without even looking at the ball.

The last over was good one but they were 10-15 runs short by the end and scored 174-7 in ther 20 overs. In reply Islamabad United got of to the flyer all thanks to the Test player of previous match, yes folks you guessed it right, Dwayne Smith. He completely dominated the batting from the ball one. He was cruel on every bowler of the Gladiators. Sharjeel Khan, the centurion, couldn’t provide the same magical innings again and got bowled by Nathan McCullum.

You got to question the captaincy of Sarfraz here where he preferred to attack from Nathan McCullum instead of Babar who provided much control in all the matches. May be he was fearful of the angle which Zulfiqar Babar would create for Sharjeel Khan. Eventually they got to poor start and United got the flyer. After the departure of Sharjeel in came the in-form batsman Brad Haddin. He and Smith then attacked the Sarfraz men completely and took the match away from them.

There was a chance which could turn the match but it was not taken. Muhammad Nawaz bowled extremely well and he was the only bowler who was a threat to Islamabad batsman. He invoked a false shot from Smith and the catch a tough one but not to Anwar Ali grasped it. It was a match turning moment. Anwar Ali who already took some blinders in the PSL 2016 required to take another blinder in the PSL Final but he failed to do it and that dearly cost them the match. In Big Final you need one spectacular effort in field to gain the momentum and for Quetta that was there chance.

After that there was no turning back as Smith and Haddin played some breath taking strokes. It was painful for KP who was playing his third final in T20 leagues and couldn’t win the single one. In the end Smith holed out to Zulfiqar Babar, Andre Russell to Aizaz Cheema and Khalid Latif to Anwar Ali but the match at that time was truly over. In the end it was Misbah ul Haq who hit the winning runs and took his side home.

The scenes at the ground were awesome. To see Wasim Akram alive as his playing days was a dream come true for every Pakistan Cricket Fan and it marks the successful end of the inaugural PSL 2016.

In the end the awards were shared which are as under

Man of the Match : Andre Russell

Most Valuable player of PSL: Ravi Bopara (well deserved)

Best Batsman: Umar Akmal (now don’t disappoint in National Colors please)

Best Bowler: Andre Russell.

Spirit of Cricket: Lahore Qalanadars (Scratching my heads why ?? )

In the end the rising star trophy was lifted by Misbah ul Haq, the most criticized man in Pakistan. I hope his triumph may silence the critics but who are we to talk when there is GEO and the great great great veteran of Cricket the great Sikander Bakht who managed incredible amount of test caps which even the great of cricket couldn’t match. They will always make bad impact no matter what.

That’s all folks it’s been fun.
