Islamabad Uniteds had to win two matches to qualify for the finals and they did that in style. In first elminator Islamabad face Karachi kings who were in spot of bother as their captian Shoaib Malik resigned from captaincy. Ravi Bopara took the captaincy in hands and faced Islamabad United in the eliminator.

The eliminator proved to be a nightmare for Karachi Kings as Islamabad eased pass through them with 9 wickets victory. The name of their nightmare was Muhamamd Sami. He took the fiver and killed the match for Karachi Kings. In whole tournament their combination didn’t click and eventually they got out of the tournament. The changing of captaincy didn’t prove a right move and Malik didn’t perform well with the bat either. The pressure on Bopara was evident from his batting.

 

In reply Islamabad chased the target of mere 112 runs with the loss of one wicket. Brad Haddin and Dwanye Smith guided to them easy victory. Karachi Kings were the most disappointing team of the tournament along with Lahore Qalanadars. Brad Haddin hit an unbeaten half century to take his team one step closer to final. Misbah and his team met the Peshawar Zalmi on Sunday to book the place in final.

 

On Sunday Islamabad came face to face against Peshawar to decide who will play the final of PSL 2016. Both team had played good cricket so far and both deserved to be in Final. Islamabad who found their momentum late in the PSL was roaring to go against the powerhouse of Peshawar.

 

Peshawar won the toss and elected to field first. Their decision was to hold the Islamabad at low total but they were devastated by Sharjeel Khan alone. He took the charge and attacked the Peshawar Zalmi so hard that they didn’t get any chance to get back in the match. Sharjeel hit the much needed century of the PSL 2016. Yes folks you heard it right he smashed the century in the must win match against the team which has the best bowling line up in the PSL.

 

Mind you the pitch was not easy to bat on as his opening partner Dwanye Smithe struggled at the other end making 19 of 37 delivers whereas Sharjeel on the other end smashed boundaries at will. It looked like there were 2 matches played on the same pitch. Peshawar managed to stop Islamabad at 176 but the damage was done. Sharjeel finished his innings at 117 courtesy to a run out.

 

Peshawar needed to be strong from the start. There start was decent one but the good bowling kept them in check. Malan smashed few boundaries but eventually got out to Samuel Badree. Muhammad Hafeez the man in form didn’t utilizeĀ  the start and got out. Imran Khalid was the man in form with the ball in hand as he picked up four wickets to seize the momentum of Peshawar Zalmi chase.

 

Kamran Akmal looked good for his 45 runs but eventually got out to Imran Khalid looking to hit him out of ground. None other batsman could settle. Even the experience of Brad Hodge couldn’t prevent them this time as he miss timed the shot and got hold in the deep. Boom Boom provided some fireworks in the end but that came too little to late as the match was far over. Andre Russell picked up three quick wickets to end the match and sent his team in the Final of PSL 2016.
